We're jumping into the Outspoken Bible stream for this Bible 2020 theme in order to tell you about a new series of interviews linked with Hope in Suffering.
------
Welcome to Hope / Suffering – a new series of interviews where we ask the question – where do you find hope in times of suffering?
We've been talking to people from all over the world who have had very different life experiences, but who have all had to deal in one way or another with suffering in their lives.
And while the ways of suffering have been different, the place they look for hope is the same – they look to the Bible.
On this episode we talk to Mike Bassous. Mike lives in Beirut in Lebanon, which is where he was when we spoke to him. For the past 20 years has been at the Bible Society in Lebonon, and for fifteen of those years, he’s been the General Secretary . His role has taken him across the globe, and has visited over 60 countries. And while he has seen so much of the world, Lebanon has been his home all his life.
Mike talks about growing up during civil war, the day to day suffering of Lebanon, and the work Bible Society Lebanon are doing with refugees in the country.
You can find out more about the work Bible Society Lebanon is doing by visiting www.biblesociety.org.lb

We're looking at the theme of Hope in Suffering in today's Outspoken Bible.
Suffering is a reality in a broken world. Scripture acknowledges this reality, but points us to the transforming presence of God in our lives, regardless of our circumstances, and the words of hope he speaks over our world.
Join the cast as Neil squeezes in as many outdoor sporting analogies as he's able, and keep listening for the redemption of the word "season", but not "certainty".
Alongside today's podcast, Scottish Bible Society are putting together a series of resources including daily devotionals and a brand new interview series - "Hope in Suffering". Find out more at https://scottish.bible/hopeinsuffering

Many of the verses in this series seem very familier to the cast, but is that a help or a hindrence? Jen, Fiona and Neil consider why there are particular verses we hold onto throughout the Bible, no matter who we are.
Alongside the usual discussion, they are also offrailed by a vague memory of what scripture is quoted in Chariots of Fire, when.
